HAM ❤️ VAR

For the first time in the history of Swiss agility, VAR will be used at the Helvetic Agility Masters. Our judges can count on the support of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) during all agility runs and the finals in the main arena.
We are delighted about this excellent new opportunity for our sport and about being able to take a further step toward greater sportsmanship.

🎥 What is VAR in Agility?

VAR is a camera-based video review system used to help judges make accurate decisions during dog agility competitions. It focuses exclusively on contact zones, including the see-saw behavior, and is not used for judging refusals or other course elements.

👥 Who operates the VAR system?

There are three key roles:

Role Responsibility
Video Operator Manages the camera system and playback. No judging authority.
Main Judge Has full decision-making authority. Can review footage or rely on assistant.
VAR Assistant Judge An FCI-licensed judge who reviews footage and may decide faults in assigned areas.
All three must be present on-site during the competition.

🕹️ How is VAR used?

  • VAR is triggered after a run if a contact zone decision is unclear.
  • The Main Judge may:
    • Review the footage personally.
    • Rely on the VAR Assistant Judge’s input.
  • If a fault is added or removed, the change is clearly communicated to the competitor and audience.
  • Communication among judges is discreet and efficient to avoid disrupting the event.

  • Ensures fairness, consistency, and accuracy in judging.
  • Helps judges make the right call in fast-paced scenarios.
  • Supports transparency without slowing down the competition.

Please remember, the campsite opens on Thursday, from 14.00. No entrance before 14.00 o’clock possible.
