The Helvetic Agility Masters

EST. 2020

The Helvetic Agility Masters is Switzerland’s greatest agility event. During 3 days about 400 agility-enthusiastic teams from 15 nations meet near the federal capital Bern.

The best teams will be sought in 3 different competitions. In the Helvetic Agility Master (HAM for short), which is also the name giver for the entire event, teams of class 3 (highest class) run against each other, while the Helvetic Novice Cup (HNC for short) is for teams of classes 1 and 2.

In the finals of HAM and HNC, which are divided into Small & Medium and Intermediate & Large, the tension is hard to beat.

Sunday is always dedicated to team sports. With the Helvetic Team Cup, teams of 4 team members are formed. In an exciting qualification jumping with baton handover, the 10 best teams qualify for the final. This offers the viewer real thrills, excitement and variety.

More than a tournament

That the Helvetic Agility Masters is more than a normal agility tournament, the organizers have already proven at the first edition in 2020.

The event has always been accompanied by an artistic supporting program, which entertains the spectators and takes them into the world of artistry.

Various show acts from different corners of Europe show their performance from the genre dogdance, dog frisbee, juggling, handstand acrobatic, and more.

    Idea & Concept

The idea to organize an agility event in Switzerland, which has significance beyond the country’s borders and stands out from other events in form and execution was born.

  • Finalization event concept

It was to take over 1.5 years for the concept to be completed. Many ideas were tried, discarded and redesigned. Always with the goal of organizing the best agility event.

    1st issue in July 2020

On July 24, 2022, the time had finally come: The Helvetic Agility Masters celebrated its premiere with significantly more registered teams than expected. With 180 teams, the schedule was pushed to its limits.

  • Corona & the Lockdown

The second issue was characterized by uncertainty. A week before the implementation, the lockdown was imposed as a result of the Corona pandemic. Within a few days, they managed to move the event to July.

There was a lot of anxiety as to whether and how the event could be held. In the times of lockdown, abstinence and distance, it was more important than ever to be able to hold the Helvetic Agility Masters to distract from the gray days that the pandemic brought with it.

The number of registrations exceeded all expectations and so the concept had to be scaled accordingly. With 260 starters from almost 10 nations, it was the most successful edition to date.

    International

For the first time, only international judges were engaged. Once again, the number of registrations set a record and increased to 390 teams from 14 nations. Despite expanded scaling, the quota was exhausted once again.

However, innovations have been introduced once again. The number of qualifying runs was increased from one to two per day. In order to increase the fairness between the categories in the finals, the seesaw was deleted in the finals. The Helvetic Lounge opened for the first time and offered visitors and participants a place to relax outside with a chillout corner, vendor booths and bar & grill. Winning prizes with a total value of CHF 12,500 were awarded!

For the first time, parts of the event were broadcast free of charge via livestream.

  • 5-year Anniversary

For the 5th anniversary, we were able to celebrate the biggest edition to date. The participants and the audience were surprised with champagne and cakes to celebrate during the finale. The logo was dyed gold for the celebration and brand new winners’ prizes in the anniversary look found new owners.

    Video Assistant Referee & Heli

Since the first edition, the HAM has always set new standards and so, for the 6th edition, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was officially introduced for the first time in the history of Swiss Agility. Our judges were able to count on the support of VAR in all agility runs and the finals in the Main Arena, and made good use of it. We are convinced that this is another pioneering achievement for the sport of agility in Switzerland and that we have taken another step towards greater fairness.

With “Heli”, a life-size wooden cow, a new mascot has joined the HAM family. She is the counterpart to our traditional wooden cow trophies. Heli graced the stage and provided many photo opportunities.

The figures for the 6th edition surpassed all previous ones:

    • Almost 700 dogs were registered in just one week
    • 420 dogs took part in the event
    • 27 nations from all over the world, including the USA, Japan and Australia, were represented
    • Over 140 participants travel by camper, caravan or tent
