🎥 What is VAR in Agility?
VAR is a camera-based video review system used to help judges make accurate decisions during dog agility competitions. It focuses exclusively on contact zones, including the see-saw behavior, and is not used for judging refusals or other course elements.
👥 Who operates the VAR system?
There are three key roles:
Role | Responsibility |
---|---|
Video Operator | Manages the camera system and playback. No judging authority. |
Main Judge | Has full decision-making authority. Can review footage or rely on assistant. |
VAR Assistant Judge | An FCI-licensed judge who reviews footage and may decide faults in assigned areas. |
🕹️ How is VAR used?
- VAR is triggered after a run if a contact zone decision is unclear.
- The Main Judge may:
- Review the footage personally.
- Rely on the VAR Assistant Judge’s input.
- If a fault is added or removed, the change is clearly communicated to the competitor and audience.
- Communication among judges is discreet and efficient to avoid disrupting the event.
✅ Why use VAR?
- Ensures fairness, consistency, and accuracy in judging.
- Helps judges make the right call in fast-paced scenarios.
- Supports transparency without slowing down the competition.
